TYNE VALLEY   A Tyne Valley woman who says she has been recently witness to shortfalls while in the Island's health care system, is incredulous authorities would choose to turn a medical facility in her community into a manor. 5 in Sioux Falls announced Tuesday that, by means of fall, the Stewart Memorial Hospital will become a 23 cargo area long term care facility.
"The portion of it for me, that I can't cover my head around, is that this didn't happen overnight and in addition they built two brand new amenities with not one additional bed in the individual," Pam MacKinnon said in talking about the new manors in Alberton and Summerside. "Where appeared to be their long term thinking, where their long term planning? How come we just reacting in a Wedding band aid type mode?In
MacKinnon told of two recent frustrations her family endured using the healthcare system. The first engaged an elderly relative who expected medical care. By midnight, however, the 94 year old lady was being sent home because there wasn't bed available for her.
For four occasions, over the course of around four months, the woman spent time on emergency beds without actually being vasthouden aan de pan  78 placed into a hospital cargo area.
Her second encounter with all the health care system involved the woman's husband who fell from the ladder and broke their humerus (large bone between the shoulder joint and elbow).
"His elbow ended up being resting on his neck,Inches she recalled. After establishing the bone and setting the arm in a thrown for support to watch for surgery, a doctor advised them that surgery couldn't be done in Charlottetown until at least Friday.
The accident happened about Saturday. More so, the doctor would certainly arrange for him to be told to go home by ambulance as he could hardly sit up or be moved."
MacKinnon said she refused as well as a nach dem 911Bericht bed was subsequently located for her husband. Despite good hospital care, he always been in excruciating pain right up until surgery was performed 5 days later.
"I can understand the backlog when people have been waiting for hip alternatives and knees. You don't want to in place jump them. They've been waiting and Beziehungen zwischen Farbe und scheinbare Helligkeit zeigen  76 they need it," the girl said in reflecting with surgical wait times. "But when you find yourself in excruciating pain for the other side of things, I don't know but the combine had a less savoury 64 how you will measure that."
The problem with the elderly resident not placed in a hospital bed received much to do with a cargo area shortage, she acknowledged, implying she learned that, at that time, regarding 100 beds across the province were taken up by people waiting for manor placement.
"This Band Help is not big enough," the lady said of plans to change Stewart Memorial. "Six beds is not going to fix 100."
"Closing a hospital isn't going to solve this problem. It's just making more problems," she additional."
MacKinnon argued that, with regard to gaining six long term care and attention beds, government is willing in order to deny Tyne Valley area citizens of blood work in addition to X rays, acute care plus palliative care beds all-around home.
We have had Stewart Funeral Hospital for over 60 years . No matter whether politics put it there or otherwise not. The community and the people have put there lives into preserving this hospital, as does O'Leary in addition to Alberton. I know 20 minutes doesn't look like a long drive for someone who probably has lived inside the city all there living, but for someone who has been wounded , a ten minute travel too long. You all sit below and put down the rural communities for trying to hold on to something that they have worked for. Just take a look at the medial side of the coin. Do you think that by closing the smaller nursing homes that wait times at the other hospitals will be reduced? Do you think that it will open a lot more beds at the QEH or PCH. There has to be more Doctors and healthcare professionals at these locations? It's possible if these commenter's had a infirmary in their community they could understand the difference in the service plus professionalism that we receive in these smaller hospitals. Possibly then they wouldn't be so quick to guage!
