MAUMELLE, AR   An elected official inside Pulaski County is facing telephone calls to resign over responses made during a public conference.
Some say the Abercrombie Fitch 74 comments expressed by 78 year old alderman Burch Johnson tend to be sexist.
The comments came for a September 15 Maumelle City Authority meeting during a discussion about pay discrepancies between the city's finance director, who's women, and her supervisor, the location clerk, who's a man.
"The lovely lady makes more than he does using a long shot," Johnson said. "I don't understand."
"[The area clerk] job was designed and settled ladies," Johnson extended.
"You're treading on very thin ice-cubes there," replied January Hogue, the city's only woman's alderman. "I don't ever want anybody talking about women's jobs versus guys jobs. I can hold virtually any job any man supports."
Some on the plank and in the Maumelle community say alderman Johnson's comments are offensive.
"I think it is necessary especially if you're in a position the place where a lot of people are going to perceive what you're saying to be careful about what you're saying," reported hair stylist Brittney Harrison.
"Elected officials should be right up today with the times and not hold onto preconceived notions," said Maumelle resident James Dobbs.
