Ask Rachael Yamagata about her play trajectory, and she'll let you know it was written in the stars.
"I halted the lessons after a year but kept playing for fun and also would make up little reports on the fly," she discussed in a recent email appointment. Since making the girl debut in 2004, Yamagata provides gathered her fair share with accolades, too. "I had these darker ballads that did not quite fit on my last full length," she explained, "but I don't like to wait long after writing something or perhaps I get bored."
The woman describes the EP's vibe seeing that distinctly more intense than various other albums and says the tunes are "devoted to stages involving letting go and, ultimately, who wish for a more universal goodness among us all."
Musically speaking, Yamagata's songs are decidedly musical affairs. Pianos play prominently on the mix, but it's Yamagata's lush, lilting vocals that repeatedly steal the actual show. She attributes the girl's songwriting approach to her love of musical technology theater and finds their self drawn to romantic production tactics and "setting a scene" with her vocals. As such, her songs make a mistake on the side of heartbreak and healing, usually punctuated by her mix of sexy and trembling deliveries.
