Row brewing over plans for 50 new homes in Wetheral

It may mean more frustration after councillors approved intends to build nearly 30 homes on land close to Hall Moor Court, despite 34 letters of objection being submitted to the city council stating that they would affect the character with the village.

The look consultant, Savills incorporating Smiths Gore, said that access to the site would be in the same position as the existing field access although a landscaped entrance would feature. It said that each property would also reap the benefits of off street parking with a mixture of driveways and garages.

However, Ann McIntosh, who lives near the proposed development, told The Cumberland News that many people surviving in the village had concerns about the problems that additional housing would cause, while they did in the event the development at Hall Moor Court was put forward. She said: "Traffic leading up Steele's Bank is a concern now because cars are parked on the road. When new houses are created it will only worsen."

Those attending the meeting also questioned the good thing about the development, since is no school inside the village and also the demand is high at those nearby.

"Families will transfer to these houses and they'll still have to bus their children out to school," Mrs McIntosh added.

"It can make more sense in case a school was built and therefore the houses came afterwards. I'm sure that it's a case of creating the houses with the aspiration of attracting people as opposed to people desire to move to the village therefore the housing needs to be built."

Other residents also said that they would be questioning perhaps the site will be suitable due to a lack of drainage.

However, an exhibit at the public consultation stated: "The site, Cheap Ray Ban UK at this capacity, can accommodate an onsite sustainable urban drainage systems/attenuation pond which would discharge with a watercourse at a greenfield elope rate (ie no greater impact than existing)."

Jennifer Hadland, associate planner at Savills Smithsgore, declared the proposal on show was a lot in its early stages.

She said: "At this stage the program is very much indicative which is there to invoke comments.

"We is going to take these comments away and analyse them before we submit the application form to the city council, that's likely to be a while during September."
