Synthetic drug ban won

NSW will ban the sale of about 30 synthetic drugs on Sunday, with retailers ordered to drag the products from other shelves immediately.

But the ban is not likely to curb standby time with the synthetic LSD drug that led to the death of 17 years old Henry Kwan the other day, as the drug is purchased only online.

The Ninety day interim ban will take care of about 30 synthetic drugs, recognized by the NSW police drug squad, which were proved to do harm when misused.

''And it may well indeed drive other individuals towards this [drug], given that they may have attended the store and also got something much more benign and after this they are thinking of going to the [online drug marketplace] Silk Road,'' Dr Barratt said.

''It will likely be similar to the types of problems you obtain with Australian bricks and mortar stores the inability to compete with overseas websites,'' she said.
