Preservation and Tourist Railways

After Seven years of getting into bed using the NSW Government the RTM will do the proper thing and have married. It absolutely was announced today (10/12) the RTM is engaged for the NSW Government. The important points of the nuptuals and date from the wedding are to be announced.

At it's 43rd AGM three important motions were carried by an overwhelming majority.

2) A brand new constitution was adopted to allow Transport Heritage NSW to take over the former roles in the RTM, Office of Rail Heritage and responsibility for other transport heritage (buses, ferries and trams (no monorails)).

3) The modern organisation will sign a funding deed with all the NSW Government through Transport NSW.

This knockoff oakley sunglasses has to be the biggest shakeup in NSW heritage rail since ORH was formed in 2006, and perhaps since the formation in the RTM 50 years ago.

It remains to be seen whether or not the NSW Government will maintain it's funding commitments once the 5 year agreement expires, and to know what could happen if there is an alteration of government in NSW.

You will find there's mammoth task ahead of the new organisation ray ban aviators polarized to undo damages that ORH and also the previous administrations caused towards the RTM and rail heritage groups in NSW. Hopefully there is sufficient funds in the bucket and several good people are available to guide the new organisation in it's youth. It also remains seen when the apparent significant conflict of interest with the RTM (THNSW) governing the purse strings for all rail and transport heritage in NSW might be successfully managed.

You will see interesting times ahead. Hopefully the heritage groups can resolve their differences and work cooperatively, although I feel that there is a large quantity of bad blood out there.

The RTM name will continue to exist but it will probably be like a brand, owned by the new entity.

How's that for the biggest shakeup in NSW heritage rail since ORH was formed in 2006, and possibly since the formation in the RTM 50 years ago.

The haste in order to the Thirlmere site causing scrapping of heritage items and spare parts, the damage which occured to heritage steam locomotives 3085, 5908, 5916 since they can be evicted to Goulburn. The spot was a bit of a tip previously. I wouldn't find video problem but the general public will not pay to watch what they consider junk. Remember, we are trying to attract the public who know squat about railways and in all probability care even less.

Calling the difficulties with DBs creation of a new boiler for 3801 as mis management is simply opinion and nothing more. We now have those that think an area should have done the job but there is no evidence that local manufacturers are in reality up to the duty or indeed would want the work. It seems a group with a decent reputation like DB may appear a logical option to those aware of all the facts. The NSW might actually seek compensation from DB for the revenue forgone because of the problems with the boiler.

The issue here is that a lot of rail fans are now living in some La La land and have no commercial expertise at all. You are so black and white when the world is actually very grey. These sort of problems happen all the time. Do not get me wrong, I want to see both C38s last action a s almost as much as anybody, but silly blame games tend not to help progress an unfortunate situation.

ORH sourced and appointed the contractors to oversee DBs work on 01s boiler. These consultants were clearly not up to the task given it took prior to the boiler ended up delivered in the hands from the project team for serious flaws to become detected. The buck stops at the very top.

Furthermore, they'd left the Thirlmere site within a complete shambles by stripping RTM of key revenue earning activities, namely museum and loopline operations.  Placing events like Outing with Thomas in the hands of Trainworks meant that the benefits of a successful event now had to be shared between two resource hungry organisations  Same amount of work, less return and reward.

ORH did good quality things, crap. We wouldn't have either 4807 or 4403 within Canberra without them, but to say that they were not responsible for causing damage in certain parts of the sector isn't quite correct.

I would point out that I'm not a member at RTM (I volunteer using the ARHS in Canberra nevertheless its starting ray ban sunglasses discount to break apart at the seams and so i dont know depending on how much longer) but word gets around quick enough.
