Cable damage cuts Bradfordville communication

TELSTRA won't comment on reports that NBN technicians damaged a cable on Saturday that cut phone and internet services to Bradfordville residents and businesses.

A hundred customers, including businesses, were afflicted with the outage, Telstra Countrywide Southeast/ACT general manager Chris Taylor confirmed.

"Two NBN technicians have already been working cheap Ray Ban Wayfarer on a pedestal on the street for two weeks near the (old) squash centre and after that all of a sudden we lose phone and internet," he stated.

Mr Brown told the Post the current service was "very poor".

"It's very outdated and slow," he said.

"We're told the NBN will probably be coming in 2010. We're looking forward to that that occurs because the service this is woeful."

"It certainly disrupts the continuity of business because we rely so heavily on emails. They have maybe put us back a week," area sales leader John Walsh said.

"When customers come in they expect an insurance quote immediately and without communication, it puts that business in jeopardy."

NBN Co we hadn't responded to questions about going to press. Mr Taylor apologised to customers for that inconvenience.

Meantime, Mr Oberg said his internet had been dropping in and out since Easter, for days at a time.

Telstra apologised to him and others across the region and offered a totally free day of downloads as compensation.

But Mr Oberg said it was meaningless because he didn't come in just a "bulls roar" of meeting his monthly allowance.

"At 12.30pm fourteen days ago my speed was tested as low as 82 bits per second. It typically runs at 99 to 105 bits per second, " he wrote in an email to Telstra.
