Oliver Smith joined the KGWN news team in May of 2015. He was created and raised in Corvallis, Oregon and in 2003 received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Oregon State University.

Oliver entered teaching and taught Junior high school and High School Mathematics, namely Title 1 Math. Oliver has always stood a passion for weather. Back when he was Four years old, he wanted to know why it could snow during times of the year and why he was without more "snow days"! His parents declared that was as he knew that has been what he wanted to do through out his life. He soon began writing weather forecasts on the chalkboard, with the teacher's permission, as far back as 3rd grade!

After 8 years from school, Oliver went back to school at Texas A college and graduated with his 2nd degree, in Meteorology, in 2014. He worked as a Weather Radio Broadcaster and interned at KGWN's sister KBTX and also did lots of research projects including: 1) Shaded Weather Stations from 2000 2012: How Important does Shade Reflect Temperature 2) A Dual Polarization Research into the Burns Carpenter Wyoming Tornado 3) Climatic change: Glacial Surface Area During Ice Ages.

Oliver experienced several severe thunderstorm episodes while in Texas and enjoyed every minute from it. Even while driving from Texas to Oregon, he would time it to where he'd have a chance to drive through severe weather. He has experienced all sorts of weather event, apart from Hurricanes.
