Richard Makoul, 57, an energetic defense attorney who figured in some of the highest user profile cases in Lehigh County, deceased Friday in Lehigh Valley Clinic, Salisbury Township.
He was the husband of Georgann (Hanna) Makoul, to whom he seemed to be married for 34 ages.
Once called "the conscience associated with defense lawyers," Makoul often took on the most difficult in addition to unpopular cases.
He defended Nelson Birdwell III, who was charged with helping her cousins, Bryan and David Freeman, while in the triple murder of their Salisbury Township mothers and fathers and brother in 1998.

"Dick was a master in the courtroom. He strategized his situations in the same manner he played poker, at which he was a professional," Brenner said.

After finishing from Temple Law School throughout 1965, Makoul would use his income skills on juries as an assistant district attorney to District Attorney George Joseph, his uncle.
