Residents of the home and members of its board of administrators gathered Saturday to commemorate the end of the home's debts, complete with a ceremonial "burning of the mortgage,Inch with Abbeyfield House treasurer Grant Getz carrying out the honours.
Getz says that the item took some careful planning in addition to crafty thinking in order to reduce Abbeyfield's debts.
Built in 2001 for $1.2 million, the not for profit senior living home was left that has a mortgage of $640,000. High interest payments meant that the home seemed to be paying more in fascination than they were in precise mortgage payments.
"My goal was to discover how to lower our interest rate,In . Getz said. "So we took out personal loans from individuals and we paid out them more interest chances are they could get in the market, but a smaller amount then what we were making payments on the banks. Now that they have no financial obligations, Abbeyfield House is busy planning different ways to improve the residence for its staff and residents.
"Right away there we were able to give staff a revenue increase, so we are now up there in comparison to other Abbeyfield residences," Gent said. Abbeyfield House is not unique to help Prince Albert. The first Abbeyfield Home was founded in London, England around 1956. There are now over 500 Abbeyfield homes in the world, including 30 houses in Canada. King Albert's Abbeyfield House was the first one to become built in the Prairie Provinces.
Abbeyfield House for seniors who want to hold on to independence, but also need a little assist.
"Many seniors experience isolation and loneliness and find it hard to arrange meals and do challenging household chores," Gent stated. "This can lead to depression and sickness. The Abbeyfield non profit model of encouraging living is ideal for those who search for a home which preserves the right to privacy while it promotes their sense of security and offers companionship and support.Inch
Gent says that she is unclear about whether they will develop a second Abbeyfield House in Royal prince Albert, but says that you can find definitely a need for more affordable senior living in the city.
