Dementia walk brings 100

PORT Lincoln residents became available in support of dementia research with all the Alzheimer's Australia SA Memory Walk and Jog last Sunday.

WALKERS: About 100 people took part in the Alzheimer's Australia SA Memory Walk and Jog in Port Lincoln.

About 100 people took the main harbour Lincoln Foreshore to get familiar with either a two kilometre walk or jog. It's the first-time Alzheimer's Australia SA has hosted the Memory Walk in Port Lincoln.

Case aimed to boost money for and awareness of Alzheimer's Australia SA support services for people living with dementia, as well as their families and carers.

Port Lincoln based dementia link worker Kylie Earl claimed it was a great day with plenty of enthusiasm from your participants.

"It's been a pleasant morning, the people who came were very positive about the event," she Ray Ban Aviator said.

Also present marriage ceremony was Alzheimer Australia SA us president Kathryn Quintel, who is originally from Port Lincoln. Ms Quintel said having services for sale in the town she grew up in was important and he or she was pleased to Ray Ban UK see that people managing dementia on the Eyre Peninsula had received increased support in the last Ray Ban outlet store online 10 years.

PRAISE: Kathryn Quintel and Kylie Earl addressed the participants who took part in the Alzheimer's Australia SA Memory Walk and Jog.

"For me it is vital we provide services to regional people," she said.

"The money raised today will go back into local services."

Ms Quintel said the Port Lincoln Memory Walk and Jog provided a great opportunity to raise awareness of Alzheimer's and related dementias while strengthening the dementia friendly culture Alzheimer's Australia SA endorsed.

Currently over 342,800 people live with dementia in Australia, that's expected to increase to 900,000 by 2050.

Dementia can be cultivated in people of any age with about 25,100 people below the age of 65 currently experiencing the disease.

You will find 1800 new installments of dementia each week nationwide, or about one person diagnosed every six minutes.

Through events such as the Memory Walk and Jog, Alzheimer's Australia is seeking to increase funding for research into dementia and increase overall understanding of the disease and support readily available for it.

Groups supporting the Memory Walk included West Coast Home Care, Uniting Communities, Matthew Flinders Home and Port Lincoln Scouts and Venturers.
