A parent of two currently experiencing a divorce, she initially discovered slash fiction as being a Lord from the Rings fan, through people she met online who shared her interest. "There's quite a bit of gay sex" inside the books she reads, but she claims that it's the storylines which draw her in, and the notion that "it can be done to find that real love of yours whatever the gender". She insists that "it's not simply the sex that interests me. With all the photography, there are many photographers whose work I truly admire. The truth that they're male bodies obviously attracts me like a straight female, however can also see the artistic quality than it."

Other fans from the genre have suggested the appeal is more complex. "In my sexual imagination I am a gay man," explained M/M novelist Alex Beecroft inside a recent interview with Out magazine.

By identifying women's desire for gay male romance and sex, A Billion Wicked Thoughts is apparently onto something. However, Singh and Lush are highly critical in the Ogas and Gaddam's research. I don't know a single slash fan who agrees; most seem to think the concept is hilarious."

Lush, meanwhile, warns that the scientists' statistics should be approached "with caution". A Billion Wicked Thoughts states that Lush's website has 100,000 visitors monthly, half of whom are gay men   "and how did they obtain that figure or conclude that half our guests are gay?" she asks. "They didn't actually ask us."

To put it differently, A Billion Wicked Thoughts could possibly have some interesting things to say about sexual interest. But there are clearly billions more still to become unearthed.
