The Ten TV Icons of 2010

To celebrate the end of 2010 in all its grandeur, we are presenting what is to becoming another major tradition here at the site   taking a look at the ten "TV Icons" that made us laugh, got us talking, or even possibly inspired us to be something more. These are people who, whether they are loved or hated, had a significant impact on the world of the small screen.

Here's a look at the criteria:

They have to be known first and foremost for their accomplishments on television (and thanks to television) in 2010. (This is why you don't see people like Justin Bieber, Mark Zuckerberg, or Sandra Bullock making any appearances.)

Every choice was selected based on this year alone   this is not to celebrate some sort of "lifetime achievement."

The list is not necessarily people who contributed positively to the surrounding world.

Betty White   the reigning queen of comedy

No one had a better ugg boots on sale at macys year in television than Betty White. The "Golden Girl" will turn 89 next month, but will still somehow be more active than most actors a quarter her age.

Then came the petition for "Saturday Night Live," and Betty delivered a ratings knockout once her show finally aired   meaning that it actually eclipsed most programs airing in primetime.

Is anyone more active   or more loved   than Betty these days?

Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino   the businessman

It was difficult to pick one "Jersey Shore" star to put on here, since Pauly D is getting his own spin off show and Snooki's really the reason the show became a worldwide hit. But in 2010, it was really a "Situation" kind of year.

Here's just some of what the guy has accomplished:

He coined such terms as "GTL" and "Grenade"

He appeared on "Dancing with the Stars"

He wrote a book

He created a line of protein infused vodka

He has his own iPhone App

He has his own workout tape

He promotes supplements

He's filmed a safe sex PSA with Bristol Palin

So does anyone take the guy too seriously? Probably not, but we should considering how well ugg boots on sale 70% off he has managed to turn being a reality TV star into a career.

Kim Kardashian   the reality master

You cannot make a list about television stars in 2010 without including Kim. Her family's reality shows have become so important to E! that the network airs them now nearly around the clock. There is one about the whole family, one about two sisters in Miami, one coming up about Kim with Kourtney in New York, and Khloe is set to get one soon ugg boots on sale at macys about her life with Lamar Odom.

As popular as Khloe and Kourtney may be, though, Kim is still at the top of the list. People are obsessed with who she is dating around the clock, and she has set a new standard when it comes to reality TV fame. (Of course, she also works much harder behind the scenes than many realize.)

How did The Situation become so successful this year? He probably took notes from Kim.

Michael C. Hall   the actor in tough times

In many ways, the "Dexter" star has book ended 2010 with two major stories. He started out the year with the breaking news of his battle against a rare form of cancer, won a Golden Globe for his part on the Showtime hit, and eventually overcame the disease. On the more negative side of things, his marriage with co star Jennifer Carpenter ended with a divorce filing earlier this fall   and there is still some drama surrounding the nature of their split.
